Africa-Press – Angola. The Mozambican President said today that “it is important to understand that the game is over and wait for the next championship”, highlighting the importance of pacifying the country and not continuing with the confusion.

Daniel Chapo was speaking to members of the Mozambican community in Luanda, where he returned as head of state, 11 months after his last visit to Angola, still as a presidential candidate, and alluded to the post-election conflicts recorded in October last year.

Stressing that this was not a state visit – which is organized, he added – but rather to thank the Angolan people, Chapo also thanked the Mozambicans present in the room of a hotel in Luanda for the trust placed in the elections of October 9, 2024, regretting the violent demonstrations that occur when the elections end, not only in Africa, but in other countries such as Brazil and the USA.

“Some analysts say that something is not right with democracy,” he emphasized, stating that he always wanted to manage the issue “peacefully.”

Chapo also stated that the post-election violence had nothing to do with the results as there was already a candidate who declared himself the winner before the votes were counted, as well as demonstrations, referring, without naming, Venâncio Mondlane, the Podemos candidate.

He also highlighted that it is “important to reach consensus and sit down with people”, regretting that since 1994, the date on which the first elections were held, “they have all ended in confusion”.

Frelimo, Daniel Chapo’s party, has governed Mozambique since the country’s independence on June 25, 1975.

“Something is not right, we have to sit down and discuss it as Mozambican brothers,” said the head of state, comparing the elections to a football match in which everyone wants to win, but only the one declared the winner by the refereeing team wins.

It is important to understand that the game is over, wait for the next championship and not continue to cause confusion”, stressed Daniel Chapo, reinforcing that he is president of all Mozambicans, including those who did not vote for him, and that he will continue to debate to “pacify the country”.

He also spoke to the Mozambican community present about the need to combat corruption that affects the country’s development and praised the diaspora community, saying that the future of Mozambique depends on all Mozambicans.

Regarding the connection with Angola, which, like Mozambique, is celebrating 50 years of independence, he once again insisted on the need for flights connecting the capitals of the two countries and on strengthening economic relations, especially in the private sector, to develop the countries, create jobs and generate income.

Daniel Chapo, who met with his counterpart João Lourenço, participateed this evening in a dinner in his honor offered by the Angolan Banking Association (Abanc).
