Africa-Press – Angola. The JMPLA, the youth arm of the MPLA, assumes since Saturday (24) the vice-presidency of the International Union of Socialist Youth, in an election that took place during the world congress of that organization taking place in Panama City.

“It is a recognition of the organization’s performance and that will serve to continue expanding the horizons of solidarity among the Angolan youth”, declared the head of the JMPLA delegation at the event, Crispiniano dos Santos, who assumes the mandate for two years.

For Crispiniano dos Santos, who is also JMPLA’s 1st National Secretary, the congress is an opportunity to share the history of struggle and victories of the Angolan people, as well as their habits and customs.

The Congress, which ends Sunday, approved Portuguese as the organization’s official working language, along with English, Spanish and French.

The International Union of Socialist Youth brings together young people from labor, socialist and social democratic movements. This year it celebrates 115 years and integrates 148 organizations from 107 countries.

Congress is the highest organ of the organization. Determines policies and ensures their implementation within the framework of the Declaration of Principles.

Congress meets once every two years, takes place in the first half of the year, and must be convened by the Presidium three months in advance.

This year the conclave takes place under the motto “Rise of Populism and Extremism – A democratic challenge”.
