Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, this Monday recommended to the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA) a commitment to keep the national currency (Kwanza) strong and exercise greater control over inflation.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the governor of the BNA, Manuel António Tiago Dias, the holder of the Executive Power stated that only with correct policies from the central bank will the country manage to have a strong economy.

At the same ceremony, the Angolan Head of State also swore in Rui Manuel de Sousa Malaquias as a member of the Economic and Social Council (CES), the advisory body of the President of the Republic.

João Lourenço considered the CES an “extremely important” body, underlining the fact that it brings together a “group of thinkers” in matters of economics and finance, which will contribute to a robust economy.

For João Lourenço, when talking about the Angolan economy, the focus should be on its diversification.

“Let us be sincere in recognizing that there is still much more to be done, that is, in terms of economic diversification, we are very far from being satisfied”, he expressed.

So, continued João Lourenço, “both the BNA, the Economic and Social Council and the Executive itself, all together, we have to join hands and work towards this great undertaking of diversifying the economy which is our salvation”.
