João Lourenço congratulates President-elect of Chad

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, congratulated Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, for his recent victory in the elections for the position of President of the Republic of Chad.

In a message sent to Idriss Déby Itno, the Head of State considers that the election result is “the recognition that the actions he developed as President of the Transitional Military Council of the Republic of Chad revealed his high qualities as a leader always committed to achieving of the great objectives of progress, well-being and prosperity of Chad”.

“On this occasion, I would like to express to you the desire that the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Chad continue to maintain the positive dialogue that has been established between our governments, aiming to strengthen existing cooperation relations, whether bilaterally or at a multilateral level, within the scope of ECCAS, to boost the development of our respective nations”, wrote President João Lourenço in his congratulatory message.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, traveled this Thursday to N’djamena, capital of Chad, to represent the Angolan Head of State at the inauguration ceremony of Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.

Idriss Déby won the presidential elections on May 6, in the first round with 61.03% of the votes, defeating his main rival, the former opposition leader and prime minister since last January, Succès Masra, who obtained 18.53 % of the votes.

Chad is a landlocked country, located in north-central Africa. It borders Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, Cameroon and Nigeria to the southwest, and Niger to the west.
