Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, considered Angola-Portugal relations dynamic, in a message on the occasion of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities Day.

In the missive, released this Saturday and addressed to his counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Angolan President refers that the dynamism in relations with Portugal is expressed through exchanges in various sectors.

Among the sectors, João Lourenço highlighted the institutional, business, academic, scientific and cultural sectors, through which Angolans and Portuguese deepen ties of friendship and cooperation.

I am sure, continues the Angolan President, that contacts at the highest level will help to create the foundations that will boost the development and progress of both nations.

On behalf of the Angolan Executive and himself, the President of the Republic congratulated the Portuguese people and government on celebrating the date, as well as wishing health, well-being and success for the Portuguese nation.

Cooperation with Portugal

In Angola there is a strong presence of Portuguese companies operating in sectors such as construction and banking.

Portugal is also an important exporter of food and beverage products to Angola.

As for Angola, it is the main African investor in Portugal with activities ranging from energy, telecommunications and banking.

There are around nine thousand Portuguese companies exporting to Angola, despite the fact that trade between the two countries has declined significantly in recent years, in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the last three (3) years, exports of goods from Angola to Portugal represented a total of USD 1 222 188 726 million and USD 4 581 426 021 million in imports, according to data from the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The figure corresponds to a negative trade balance of around USD 3,359,237,296 million.
