Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, traveled this Saturday to Kinshasa, in order to participate in the investiture ceremony of Félix Tshisekedi, re-elected for a second term as president of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
At 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the Head of State received farewell greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, among other individuals.
President Félix Tshisekedi won last December’s presidential elections, thus remaining in office since his first electoral victory in 2018.
He was re-elected for a second five-year term, in the general elections of December 20 and 21, 2023, obtaining 73.34% of the votes, ahead of Moïse Katumbi, former governor of Katanga (18.08% of the votes ); Martin Fayulu, leader of the opposition (5.33%) and Adolphe Muzito (1.12%).
In this regard, the Angolan statesman congratulated his counterpart, stressing that it reveals the trust placed by the Congolese people, who, by returning him to the highest judiciary in the DRC, demonstrates that he positively values all the political action and efforts undertaken by him and by your Government over the last four years.
In his message, the acting president of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) said that this appreciation of the people goes towards reestablishing peace, stability and harmony in the DRC.
João Lourenço stressed that without them, economic and social development projects will not be able to be fully carried out, to the benefit of the prosperity and well-being of the Congolese.
