Africa-Press – Angola. MPLA president João Lourenço defended this Saturday, in the city of Luena, Moxico province, that “it is not possible to develop the country only with politicians”, stressing that “the only way to develop the country is with science”. .

The MPLA leader, who was speaking at the mass act, as part of the pre-election campaign for the election next August, before militants, friends and sympathizers, in that city further east of the country, said that politicians seek to make correct political choices , for whom “this is the mission of politicians”.

“But from then on, science and technology give way to knowledge”, underlined João Lourenço, to justify the party’s bet on choosing a woman linked to the academic world as a candidate for Vice-President of the Republic of Angola.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to bring the candidate so that I can present her because she is carrying out an important state mission abroad that makes it impossible for her to be here in Luena today,” he informed, assuring that she will be sufficiently known until the 24th of August on condition that candidate for Vice-President of the Republic by the MPLA, Esperança da Costa.

The MPLA candidate for Vice-President of the Republic for the period 2022-2027 was publicly presented in the city of Mbanza Kongo, in Zaire, by the party’s president, João Lourenço, during the mass political act.

Candidate Profile

Esperança Maria Eduardo Francisco da Costa (current Secretary of State for Fisheries) has a PhD in Phytoecology from the Technical University of Lisbon. She has a master’s degree in Plant Productivity, Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa.

Professionally, from 2020 to the present, he has held the position of Secretary of State for Fisheries. Between 2010 and 2020 she was director of the Botany Center at Universidade Agostinho Neto, while in the period 2007-2010 she held the position of National Director of the Expansion of Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education.

Her curriculum also includes the position of vice-rector for the University Expansion of UAN (2002 – 2007), founder of the UAN Botany Center. From 1997–2002 she was Deputy Director of Scientific Affairs at the national coordinator of the SADC Biodiversity Studies Network (SABONET), focal point for Southern Africa of the International Science Network, IFS, among other positions.

A member of the MPLA Central Committee since 2019, Esperança da Costa has been through the various structures of the party, in the OMA and JMPLA.
