Africa-Press – Angola. The distinction of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, with the “José Aparecido de Oliveira Award”, promoted by the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), is the political highlight of the week.

The distinction, decided by acclamation by the jury, made up of permanent representatives of the Member States of the CPLP, and comes after João Lourenço has already been distinguished, recently, with the title of Champion of Peace and Reconciliation, by the African Union (AU).

Still in this domain, the week was marked by the recognition of the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde, who praised, in Addis-Ababa, the efforts of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, in the pacification and security of the African continent.

The Ethiopian stateswoman highlighted the involvement of the Angolan counterpart in ending the crisis between the Democratic Republics of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda and, more recently, in Sudan.

In another sense, the visit of the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, to Mbanza Kongo (Zaire), where she chaired the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Multisectoral Commission for the Safeguarding of the World Cultural Heritage, is noteworthy.

Still in Mbanza Kongo, the Vice-President reopened the Comandante Bula cultural centre, which benefited from rehabilitation, expansion and refurbishment works.

The works to improve this infrastructure, budgeted at USD 3 million and 500 thousand, were financed by the company Angola-LNG and were in charge of MEME-Angola.

Also echoed during the week was the celebration of 30 years of cooperation between Angola and the USA.

In the parliamentary field, the reaffirmation of the holding of the 147th General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (UIP), which will take place in October this year, in the Angolan capital, Luanda, under the motto “Parliamentary Action for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”, was another of the highlights.

The event will have the participation of around 1,400 deputies from 172 countries and 150 presidents of parliaments from around the world, with the organizing committee creating conditions for its success.

In the last seven days, also highlighted the announcement of the visit, soon, to Angola, of the President of Brazil, Lulas da Silva.

The trip of the Brazilian statesman, the first in an African country, since his re-election to the post, is focused on identifying new projects and investments.

For this purpose, the Angolan authorities intend to negotiate a new line of credit with the Brazilian government, and replicate part of the agreements signed during the first consulate of President Lula da Silva, between 2003 and 2011, as indicated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. from Angola, Tete Antonio.
