Africa-Press – Angola. Diplomat José Agostinho Neto, brother of Angola’s first president, died on Saturday in Lisbon, aged 85, due to illness.
In a note sent this Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which announced the misfortune, expresses “deep sadness and high compassion” and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family.
In the document, signed by the Head of the sector, Teté António, Mirex recalls that “Uncle Loló”, as he was affectionately known, was Angola’s extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Republics of Congo, Tanzania and Botswana.
A regular member of the MPLA, the ambassador was also a member of the Banco de Poupança e Crédito (BPC) and non-executive director of the António Agostinho Neto Foundation (FAAA), where he looked after the legacy of his older brother.
“In this moment of pain and mourning, I address, on behalf of the Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the entire diplomatic class and other officials, feelings of condolence for the bereaved family”, writes Teté António.
