Africa-Press – Angola. The autopsy on the body of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, who died last Friday, in Barcelona, Spain, begins to be carried out today, at the request of the family. This process, in accordance with local legislation on the matter, lasts a week, but, at the request of the Angolan Government, may take only three days.
Indeed, only after this step will it be known the day on which the body of the former President of the Republic will be transferred to Luanda, in order to carry out the funeral with State honours.
The autopsy will be carried out at the Instituto de Medicina Legal de Barcelona, where the body is already located. At the moment, very advanced talks are taking place here in Barcelona between the Angolan delegation from Luanda, led by the Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Furtado, and the family, on the process inherent to the transfer of the body to Luanda.
The first contact between the parties, held virtually, took place on Saturday and was attended by six of the former President’s eight children, with emphasis on the firstborn Isabel dos Santos. Tchizé and Zenu dos Santos were absent from these conversations, which lasted about two hours.
In the end, the family asked for 48 hours to present what can be considered as the will regarding how they would like the funeral to be held in Luanda. This proposal will be presented today to the Angolan delegation.
The meeting, chaired by Francisco Furtado, was attended by the Angolan ambassador to Mozambique, the contemporary of former President Brito Sozinho, the Angolan ambassador to Spain, José Luís de Matos, and the Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Pitta Grós.
