Africa-Press – Angola. On Friday, in the city of Cuito, Bié province, writer and journalist Fidel Custódio highlighted the importance of incorporating topics related to social media into the curricula of educational institutions.
Fidel Custódio was speaking during the presentation ceremony of his book entitled “Social Networks, the Right to Information and the Privacy of Life,” recently launched in Luanda.
The journalist argued that the topic would allow schools to promote understanding of these tools, encouraging their ethical and responsible use by students. For him, discussing education is an urgent issue in the digital age, since society needs to be more prepared than artificial intelligence itself.
According to him, most users lack the necessary preparation to use social media responsibly, due to a lack of specific education in this field.
“At a time when Angola is celebrating 50 years of independence and aligning itself with international guidelines for the protection of citizens’ rights, it is fundamental to talk not only about laws, but also about education,” he stated.
He emphasized that the proper mastery of social media allows citizens to enjoy its benefits consciously, minimizing risks and negative consequences.According to him, the less prepared and informed citizens are about the use of these platforms, the greater the potential harm that can result.
He highlighted the fact that content that undermines the freedom, image, and reputation of individuals, government entities, and companies is frequently shared, viewed, and commented on, often without due care.
This reality, according to the author, has led to an increase in cybercrimes which, despite occurring in the digital environment, have real impacts on the lives of families, businesses, and institutions.
Therefore, he continued, it is necessary to raise awareness that content related to privacy must be treated with caution, considering that it is part of a restricted space and must be protected, not only by the State, but also by the users themselves.
Accordingly, it is fundamental to ensure that the use of social networks is done ethically, avoiding leaks of sensitive information that could harm individuals, families, companies, and society as a whole, he added.Addressing an audience composed mostly of academics, he explained that the book is the result of a study he has been developing since 2015 on the subject, where, in addition to addressing the advantages and consequences of the misuse of social networks, he also sought to honor the victims of these digital platforms.
The 127-page book was revised and edited by Embuke Edições, which printed 500 copies in this first edition.
Besides Bié, today was also the day of the book presentation in Huambo.
Benguela and Cubango will be the next stops.
The presentation ceremony, followed by sales and autograph sessions, was marked by a lecture on the theme “The sharing of data without the author’s consent,” given by the author.
