Kilamba returns to the “spotlights” of the world

Africa-Press – Angola. Kilamba’s Multipurpose pavilion will once again be under the world’s spotlight, starting this Saturday, the start of the African Senior Men’s Basketball Championship for domestic players “AFROCAN’2023”.

After being the stage in February of this year for the last qualifying window for the World Cup, this time, the building, which takes on multicolored effects at night, hosts 12 teams, divided into four groups of three members each.

Inaugurated in 2013 to host the Roller Hockey World Championship, the infrastructure, located 17.2 km from the center of Luanda, is the largest space of its kind in the country, not in vain that it has been successively elected for international events.

In April of this year, for example, the imposing pavilion, with capacity for 12,720 spectators, hosted the African Judo “Open“, in which Angola was crowned champion.

The Kilamba Pavilion was built in the Camama II area, in the municipality of Talatona, on the opposite side of the expressway in relation to the 11 de Novembro stadium, in Luanda.

Its structure contains shading modules, made up of metallic bases supporting tensioned gray screens, but which take on different levels of transparency depending on the intensity of the lighting.

The galleries on the pavilion’s upper floors are enclosed on the outside by 156 modules, made up of a metal structure with two main profiles connected together.

On floor zero (0) are located the services and areas for the general public, namely information counters, bars and sanitary facilities, while at the top are the accesses for VIPs and the press, administration, sports agents and supporters with reduced mobility .

On the 1st floor, in addition to the game court, there are several support areas for sports, changing rooms, warm-up areas, a medical station, anti-doping control and space for the media.

In addition, there are technical maintenance areas to support staff, including changing rooms and respective support facilities and a National Police station.

The last level takes up the benches intended for the general public, with access to the various columns of stairs ensuring comfort and safety. The bench with the greatest inclination guarantees excellent visibility conditions.

The gross construction area amounts to 30,000 square meters. The outdoor parking has capacity for 873 vehicles and the indoor parking for 47, in addition to the space for taxis and other public transport with 27 square meters.

At AFROCAN ́2023, Angola will face Mali in the debut, at 6 pm on Saturday for group B and, as usual in the national team games, it is expected to sell out in the majestic Kilamba.
