Africa-Press – Angola. The farmers of the village of Nula Ngombe, on the outskirts of the municipality of Malanje, benefited last Thursday from agricultural kits consisting of hoes, machetes and motor pumps. The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Danila Bragança, handed over the goods during a visit to the “Kudiva Sunge” youth agricultural cooperative. The Secretary of State’s visit was aimed at helping to create conditions with the aim of increasing production levels and contributing to the diet of the local population.
The event marked the end of a two-day work trip to Malanje, where she led the National Colloquium on “The Role of Youth in Preserving Achievements”. Danila Bragança said that the Angolan State intends to provide opportunities to young people who want to transform their lives in order to benefit their communities.
The delivery of means of cultivation to farmers will allow for an increase in income and the diversification of the national economy, said the Secretary of State, who then praised the level of organization of the cooperatives and the agricultural work being carried out by the Kudiva Sunge Cooperative.
The minister called on farmers to redouble their efforts to increase production, as this has helped the country and the Executive to reduce food imports, given the financial difficulties that Angola is facing.
The president of the Cooperative, Albano Manuel, stressed that they currently have a productive area of 68 hectares of cassava and are expecting to harvest 1,200 tons to supply the market.
He reported that in the last agricultural campaign, members harvested five tons of beans and 15 tons of corn.
This year, the aim is to increase production, despite the lack of mechanization, which has limited high levels of productivity.
