Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote, considered, this Friday, in Luanda, that the lack of preparation of Angolan women has served as a barrier to gender empowerment.

This fact was expressed during the opening of the Colloquium “Women, Tradition and Future”, promoted by the Association Kudia Banco Alimentar (AKBA) and the African Women’s Group.

Therefore, he said that the Angolan Executive is concerned with women’s empowerment, a fact that leads to the definition of a set of policies aimed at improving political and social positioning in the national, regional and global context.

“The great barrier does not pass only and only by the executive’s policies, they are anchored in the lack of preparation of the woman”, he said.

According to the representative of the Kudia Banco Alimentar Association (AKBA), Teresa Teixeira, the purpose of the meeting was limited to addressing African traditions, their strengths and what should be reinforced, as well as debated without any kind of taboo.

During the meeting, which brought together women from various social strata, topics such as rituals in Africa that mark the transition from young girls to adulthood and genital mutilation were addressed, making a profound reference to the habits and customs of peoples.

The issue of menstruation, early pregnancy, breastfeeding and sexual harassment, as well as prostitution and pedophilia, were also reflected.

The colloquium also featured a cultural exhibition of visual arts, ceramics and textiles, with the participation of various African diplomatic representations.
