Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Marcy Lopes, stated on Thursday that the approval of the law on NGO will enable the identification and monitoring of organizations and ensure greater resilience and robustness of the country’s financial system.
The minister made the statements to the press after the approval of the law with 106 votes in favor, 77 against, and two abstentions.
Lopes added that the law will allow private organizations operating as NGOs to work in accordance with transparency rules and anti-money laundering regulations.
He said that the approval of this law represents another decisive step toward robust financial systems and full compliance with international standards, thereby reinforcing the country’s credibility on a global level.
According to Lopes, this measure is a victory in the ongoing process of eliminating the nonconformities identified by the FATF, particularly with regard to the regulation and oversight of NGOs. Previously, NGOs were considered one of the main constraints of the system.
He stated that, with the approval of the new law, the focus will be on ensuring that all NGO activities comply with the rules established in the legal instrument.
The objective, he said, is to guarantee that previously non-compliant practices are properly adjusted to the new legal framework.
