Africa-Press – Angola. The request for authorization for the President of the Republic to legislate on the Legal Regime of Industrial Development Poles was approved on Monday, unanimously, by the Members of the National Assembly, with 191 votes in favor.
The legislative initiative, which received favorable votes from parliamentarians during the 5th Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 5th Legislature, aims to boost the development of the industry sector, by boosting existing industrial development poles, limiting the barriers of the current management regime by inserting private entities in the management and exploitation of these infrastructures.
In addition, the diploma also plans to boost the growth of the industrial sector and boost the national economy.
The vote in favor of this document was preceded by several interventions by Members of the Parliament (MP), who debated around fishing industrialization, diamond mining, agro-industry, mining training, industrial infrastructures, among others.
According to UNITA MP Armando Caquepa, the bill on the Legal Regime of Industrial Development Poles is strategic and could be a turning point for Angola’s economy, with emphasis on the province of Cuanza-Sul.
He pointed out this location as a “mosaic of potential”, with natural and human resources and a strategic location.
In the field of agro-industry, he said, despite fertile land and diversified production (coffee, cotton, citrus fruits and vegetables), producers face a lack of infrastructure, financing and competition from imports, requiring tax incentives, accessible credit and support for local transformation.
For the oil and gas sector, he highlighted that Cuanza-Sul trains qualified staff, but suffers from a “brain drain”, due to the decline of the local job market and the collapse of companies linked to oil activity.
In the mining, construction and fishing sectors, he recognized the existence of an enormous potential that is still little explored, despite the existence of mineral resources, a cement industry and an extensive sea coast.
Armando Caquepa also called for the creation of a business environment favorable to investment, modernization, local processing and the creation of sustainable value.
In turn, MPLA MP Ireno Nambalo highlighted that industrial development is not just a choice, it is a historical, strategic and urgent necessity.
Industrialization is a pillar of economic sovereignty, the engine of sustainable wealth creation and the safe path to growth for all Angolan families.
