Luanda hosts meeting of CPLP ministers

Africa-Press – Angola. The ministers of Economy, Trade and Finance of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) meet today in Luanda to design and propose a Strategic Agenda for economic cooperation in the 2022/2017 five-year period.

According to a note from the Angolan Ministry of Economy and Planning, the meeting is intended to be “a dynamic space that promotes converging legal and regulatory frameworks, business flows, investments and commercial exchanges, based on common principles and values, namely in the promotion of human rights and sustainable development”.

Ministers will also be able to address the implementation of measures to overcome structural difficulties in the development of trade, investment and financing.

The promotion of trade and investment, institutional and business capacity building, improvement of financing mechanisms, reinforcement of competitiveness and the consolidation and development of national infrastructures for quality are some of the cornerstones of economic cooperation in the CPLP.

This working meeting of ministers from the Economy, Trade and Finance sectors follows the new pillar of the CPLP, focused on economic cooperation, adopted at the Luanda Summit in 2021, in which Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the organization.

The event will be attended by the ministers of Economy and Planning of Angola, Mário Caetano João, of Industry and Commerce, Víctor Fernandes, and of Finance, Vera Daves, and their counterparts from Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
