Lunda-Sul adopts new toponymy for streets and municipalities

Africa-Press – Angola. The Provincial Government of Lunda-Sul will implement, in the coming days, a new toponymy for the streets and neighborhoods of the municipalities that make up the province, aiming to reorganize the areas with their own names and facilitate their quick location.

The intention was expressed Monday, by the provincial governor of Lunda-Sul, Daniel Neto, during the first ordinary session of the Government, having highlighted that the initiative aims to interrupt the intention of many citizens, who assign names to avenues and streets unruly.

The governor explained that the disorganization of the city’s toponymy has been causing constraints in the process of urbanization of the city and surrounding neighborhoods, since many of them still bear the names of colonizers.

He said that, to this end, the Government will count on the involvement of residents’ committees and traditional authorities, to help define the names of the city’s different streets and respective neighborhoods.

On the other hand, Daniel Neto made it known that, for this year, the Government will pay attention to the Março Mulher program, with a view to boosting activities in reference to the celebrations of the day dedicated to this fringe.

In order to reorganize the toponymy of the province’s municipalities, participants in the open meeting this Monday will also analyze issues relating to the institutionalization of the award for the best municipality in the 2024 edition, the activity plan for the celebrations and festive dates of the month of March and the presentation of the General State Budget (OGE).
