Africa-Press – Angola. Left-back Magda Cazanga, 31 years old, 1.77 meters and 64 kilos, joins the Petro de Luanda team in the dispute of the National Senior Women’s Handball Championship, which Huíla province will host next month.
The fact was revealed, Tuesday (14), by the board member, Elisa Torres “Tia Lili”, during the balance sheet press conference of the season, held at the club’s headquarters. After Nacional, Magda Cazanga also plays the final phase of the Angola Cup.
In statements to the press, the president of Petro, Tomás Faria, assured that the balance of the 2021/2022 season is positive, although there are two events to be disputed.
Domestically, the tricolors won the “Francisco de Almeida” Supercup and the Luanda Provincial Championship.
“For the National and the Angola Cup, the objectives cannot be different. They are the biggest competitions on the calendar and, for that reason, we are determined to win these trophies”, he guaranteed.
At continental level, the Eixo Viário team won the Babakar Fall Super Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup. Under the aegis of the African Confederation, the Champions Clubs’ Cup remains to be played.
As for the likely signings of athletes from other clubs, Petro’s number one argued: “We’re going to hire the players available on the market. Obviously, depending on the needs of the technical team.”
At the orders of Vivaldo Eduardo, the tricolors began to design the National Championship, on Monday , with training divided between the courts of Catetão and the Main Pavilion of Cidadela.
At this stage of preparation, in addition to bi-daily training, cryotherapy sessions (ice therapy) are also reserved. In the last edition, Petro de Luanda won the competition, beating 1º de Agosto by 20-14.
Regarding the absence of men’s handball in Nacional played in Benguela, last month, the club’s manager made it known that it is not a nuclear sport. For this reason, added the president, when the competitions are played outside Luanda, the financial burden is not borne by the club.
“With the exception of athletics and cycling, as they have their own characteristics, the other non-nuclear sports, when they have competitions in other provinces, we do not participate. It is important to remember that this is a matter decided during a General Assembly. For example, if the organization of the race assume all the burdens, we participate without any problem”.
Like cycling, whose sponsor covers all expenses, Tomás Faria said that the board is working so that other non-core disciplines have the same autonomy.
In view of the results achieved in the 2021/2022 season, Faria guaranteed the continuity of the women’s football, basketball and handball coaches. Cycling, volleyball, athletics, roller hockey are the other activities at the club.
Faria refutes economist Rosado on budget
Surrounded by controversy, the president of Petro de Luanda, Tomás Faria, on Tuesday, 14, refuted statements by economist Carlos Rosado, according to which the club has a monthly budget of US$3 million, from the oil company Sonangol.
According to the leader, if the economist’s statements were true, the Eixo Viário team would have won several competitions. On the other hand, the tricolor president defends that comparative analyzes with other emblems must obey parameters.
“I don’t know the economist in question. However, I also have a degree in economics and would be happy to discuss the matter face-to-face. The analysis carried out is devoid of foundations. It probably took the data and the Petro served as a comparison of a When comparing with Sporting de Cabinda and Benguela, without discrediting the two teams, it was important to know the number of athletes involved, the modalities and the objectives”, he said.
In Faria’s view, the tricolor formation has its own needs. “When participating in the different competitions, we have to be compared with those who fight for the title and are at our level”.
“If we had a budget of three million dollars for 12 months, the president added, the results would be different and, possibly, we would already have other infrastructures”.
“The advanced numbers are distorted. They have nothing to do with reality. But the document that circulated on social networks is ours. Therefore, we would very much like to have the right of reply”.
