Africa-Press – Angola. A total of 39,298 disadvantaged families, from the 14 municipalities in Malanje province, are being assisted, since 2020, with a quarterly amount of 25,500 kwanzas, under the Social Protection Strengthening Program (Kwenda).
The provincial director of the Social Support Fund (FAS), Gomes Golombole, who was speaking during the opening of the payment act to 17,163 families covered by the project, in the municipality of Calandula, about 85 kilometers north of the city of Malanje, made it known that , so far, Kwenda has disbursed more than two billion kwanzas to the province.
He also clarified that the amounts are being used in income-generating activities, with a view to improving the living conditions of the population covered.
As part of the Municipalization of Social Action, Gomes Golombole said that two Integrated Social Action Centers (CASI) are already operational, one in the municipality of Cambundi-Catembo and the other in Luquembo, while an equal number of these structures are being built in Quirima and Calandula. So far, 554 households from the municipality of Cambundi-Catembo, 9,500 from Luquembo, 4,081 from Quirima and 17,163 from Calandula have already been covered, and the latter began to benefit eight days ago from the 51,000 kwanzas each, referring to two installments .
The governor of Malanje, Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa”, appealed to the beneficiary families of Calandula to apply the amounts received in business, with a view to multiplying and reducing the vulnerability index.
The official also stressed that this initiative will allow Kwenda to cover, in stages, 1,608,000 needy families in the country’s 164 municipalities, until next year, from a global budget of US$420 million.
