Africa-Press – Angola. Aspects related to social and economic life and the integration of Angolan communities spread throughout Portugal were some of the issues that the vice-president of the ruling MPLA party, Mara Quiosa, discussed with leaders of associations of Angolans residing in Portugal.

These aspects were discussed in meetings with leaders of associations, ecclesiastical entities and representatives of Angolan civil society living in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, as well as in the central and southern regions of the European country.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, the chairman of the Association of Angolan Students in Portugal, Ayrton Pahula, said that it was a very positive meeting, because he managed to convey the main problems they face and which are related to the legalization process as well as the high cost of tuition fees.

“The vice-president sympathized with the students’ problems and we hope they will help us find a solution, because most of the students here are from Portuguese-speaking countries,” he said.

In turn, the international coordinator of the Association of Young Angolan Entrepreneurs in Portugal (ANJE), Vivaldo Silva, stressed that the initiative reflects the concerns of the Angolan authorities regarding the diaspora.

According to him, the main concerns raised at the meeting focused on access to foreign currency, something that businesspeople frequently face and they also took the opportunity to request better exchange between Angola and Portugal with regard to the import and export of food products.

Mara Quiosa, who arrived in Portugal on Wednesday, has a busy work schedule, which also includes other courtesy meetings with representatives of the Angolan diplomatic and consular mission.

The main objective of your visit is to see and take stock of the organizational and operational state of the structures of this political party in Portugal.

At her arrival, Mara Quiosa was received at Humberto Delgado Airport by the party’s secretary for Organization, Mobilization and Social Integration, Gonçalves Muandumba, and by members of the MPLA Community Committee in Portugal.

The political leader’s delegation is made up of important figures, including the secretaries for International Relations, Manuel Augusto, and for Political and Electoral Affairs, João de Almeida (Jú Martins), as well as other MPLA leaders.

According to the programme, Mara Quiosa will also meet with the leadership of the MPLA Committee for Angolan Communities in Portugal. In addition, she will grant audience to the members of the Action Committees of the political party, the Women’s wing (OMA), as well as the Youth wing (JMPLA) in the Central and Southern regions of Portugal.

During these meetings, it is expected that the party’s leadership guidelines and those of its leader, President João Lourenço, will be transmitted.

However, the aim is to redouble efforts to strengthen the structures of this political party throughout Portugal, where the MPLA has a significant presence of members, supporters and friends.
