Africa-Press – Angola. Hired to win the Angola Cup, the coach of Bravos do Maquis, Mário Soares, failed to achieve this goal, but placed the maquisardes club in 6th place in Girabola2022/23, one more position above what had been asked of him.
In an interview, regarding the balance of the football season, Mário Soares once again blamed the refereeing team, at the time led by judge Felicinao Lucas, for the early elimination in the round of 16 of the Angola Cup.
“I don’t know if it’s a human error or if the refereeing team wanted to remove us from the Cup. We sent the images to the Disciplinary Council of the FAF (the governing body of the sport in the country). Despite the blunders, the same team was nominated for judge more games”, he criticized.
He explained that two penalties favorable to Bravos do Maquis, which he believes would result in goals, and another unfavorable one, were enough to prolong the absence of the Moxico team, which has not won the competition for eight years.
Regarding Girabola2022/23, Mários Soares, substitute for Zeca Amaral since the 12th round, said he was dissatisfied with the 6th place, as he thought he would reach the top places, despite the seventh position required by the management.
Mário Soares found the “blue and white” team in the 12th round of the main Angolan championship, with three wins, an equal number of draws and five defeats, accumulating nine points, in 12th place in the league table.
Accounts made at the end of the season, Mário Soares, former coach of Desportivo da Huila, won seven wins, six draws and four defeats, finishing in 6th place.
As reasons for missing the podium, he pointed to the “selection process in the administrative organization, the financial constraints” and others that were included in the report when he took over the team.
Although he didn’t need to, he highlighted “all the good things” that coach Zeca Amaral, his predecessor, did and sustained from these aspects to harmonize the psychic levels of the athletes.

With regard to prospects, he reaffirmed his commitment to work to improve the Maquis into a solid and winning structure.
To this end, without mentioning positions and origins, it intends to hire five or seven athletes who bring greater quality of football in the Maquis.
In Girabola2022/23, FC Bravos do Maquis finished sixth in the league table, with 39 points, in a competition won by Petro de Luanda, now two-time national champion.
