Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Media Regulatory Authority (ERCA) praised on Friday the coverage of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of National Independence by public and private media outlets.
In a press release, the institution stated that the coverage solidified national pride and reinforced the idea of being “ourselves,” as advocated by Dr. António Agostinho Neto, the “Father of the Nation.”
ERCA expressed concern that Angolan Public Television (TPA) broadcast a piece on November 7 calling mercenaries the allied FAPLA troops who fought in the Battle of Ntó (Cabinda), which resulted in the neutralization and expulsion of the invading forces.
ERCA explains that it has taken note of the TPA Directorate’s initiation of a fact-finding process.
ERCA is an independent administrative body responsible for regulating and supervising social communication in Angola.
Its mission is to ensure freedom of expression and the objectivity and impartiality of information while guaranteeing compliance with the Angolan Constitution and laws.
