Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Huíla detained four men, in the municipality of Chipindo, 456 km north of Lubango, in possession of an altered AKM-type firearm, with the respective charger, presumably be used in criminal actions.
These are four citizens between 28 and 45 years old, all natives and residents of Huambo province, who were arrested for the crime of manufacturing, trafficking, detaining and altering prohibited weapons and ammunition.
Tuesday, the SIC/Huíla spokesman, inspector Segunda Quitumba, said that the arrest, in flagrante delicto, took place on Sunday, around 8:00 am, in the Buloteque sector, specifically in bridge over the Cunene river.
The concerned citizens, aboard a Toyota Hiace model vehicle, were questioned by operatives from the Municipal Department of Chipindo, when leaving Huambo province for this municipality.
As part of a routine search, said the source, it was possible to find and seize a backpack containing an AKM-type firearm, a magazine with 14 rounds of ammunition and a bayonet.
The suspects will be presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and later to the Guarantor Judge, for the decision of the prison situation.
The use of altered firearms (shortened barrel) has been common in acts of robbery and theft of cattle and motorcycles, as well as in assaults on secondary and tertiary roads, with motorcycle taxi drivers being the main victims.
Data from the National Police indicate that in the first half of this year, 17 motorcycle thefts using firearms were recorded, five of which resulted in the death of the victims. There is also the notification of 11 crimes of cattle theft by the same modus operandi .
