Africa-Press – Angola. The Luele mine will help reduce the unemployment rate among young people in the province of Lunda Sul, the governor, Daniel Neto, revealed this Monday.
Speaking to the press, the government official reiterated that, in addition to employability, the mining project will allow for greater revenue collection and contribute to the development of the country and Lunda Sul, in particular.
He made it known that the population is looking forward to the PR’s two-day visit, as they want to hear the guidelines, aspects linked to the social life of the province and all the actions that have been developed in favor of well-being.
He also indicated that the PR’s visit will also serve to present several achievements made in the last three years.
Daniel Neto praised the arrival of the President of the Republic, because it demonstrates the desire to be increasingly closer to the populations and gradually resolve the main problems that afflict Angolans.
Visit from PR
The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in addition to inaugurating the Luele mining project, has, among other agendas, a meeting on Tuesday, with members of the Executive, where the governor of Lunda Sul, Daniel Neto, will make a presentation of the projects executed and in progress, as well as the problems that still afflict the region and future projects.
Luele mining project
Located in the province of Lunda Sul, Luele is a kimberlite deposit mine. It has capacity for 1,500 workers and in the first phase the expectation is that it will reach just over one million carats per year and a gross revenue of 60 million USD per year.
Located in an area of 104 hectares, preliminary data point to the mine having a reserve of 350 million carats and a useful life of 30 years, 600 meters deep. The mine began prospecting between 2007/2008 and expects employ 1,300 workers in the first phase, out of the 1,500 planned.
A balance presented by ENDIAMA, in 2021, on the company’s achievements, that year, the mine produced around 1.7 million carats of diamonds, with an average monthly diamond production of 143.7 thousand carats.
It is considered the largest diamond project in the country and the third largest kimberlite in the world, with reserves estimated at 350 million carats and a useful life of 30 years.
