Minister of Justice explains reasons for printing BIs in Luanda

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Marcy Lopes, said this Friday, in Lobito, Benguela province, that the printing of identity cards continues to be done in Luanda for security reasons.

Until 2020, the Identity Card was produced locally, in Benguela), and picked up by users a few minutes after completing the procedures, a situation that has changed.

Speaking to the press, at the end of a visit to the facilities of the Civil and Criminal Registry, Marcy Lopes said that there was a change in the schedule.

“The Identity Card confers citizenship and nationality on citizens and its issue must be carried out in compliance with a security procedure. It is for this reason that this change was made, but we are working to improve the conditions of access to tickets to all people,” he assured.

According to the official, before there was a need to collect the BI by activating the fingerprint, but now it can be done without additional procedure.

The building of the Civil and Criminal Registry in Lobito, built in 2013, although in operation, is being repaired due to problems in its physical structure.

Regarding this aspect, the minister stated that the contract has “some less good situations and unpaid debts”.

On the occasion, he was presented with problems of lack of equipment, as well as others that are obsolete, in addition to constant assaults on the facilities.

Of the four cameras used in the BI issue section, only one works, according to the person in charge of the area.

In Catumbela, Marcy Lopes visited the Conservatory and Notary offices, as well as the registration shop, both with little space to carry out the work.

In Benguela, he toured the Ministry of Justice building, which temporarily houses all services in the sector.

The Civil and Criminal Identification Division is also under construction due to problems with its physical structure, with some of the departments in a poor state of repair.
