Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, pointed out this Tuesday, in Luanda, the ideals of Pan-Africanist Amílcar Cabral as beacons for the development and construction of States capable of providing equal opportunities for all.

Adão de Almeida, who spoke at the International Colloquium celebrating the centenary of Amílcar Cabral, to be celebrated on September 12th of this year, defined the ideals of the nationalist as timeless and self-renewable from generation to generation, hence men of the politician’s stature are eternal.

Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral was a politician, poet, agronomist and convinced Pan-Africanist, who fought for, above all, the independence of the then Portuguese colonies in Africa.

For the ruler, his Pan-Africanist ideals were useful yesterday and are necessary today, noting that the challenges are different, but the reason for being is the same, the dignification of Man.

According to the Minister of State, the meeting is a way of celebrating Amílcar Cabral’s centenary, but it is also a call to reflect on the challenges of the time.

He said that the challenge is not traditional colonization, but the various forms of neo-colonization, how to make globalization a positive reality and not a giving up of African nationalism, particularly at a time when the world economic order is threatened by nationalist, extremist and xenophobic movements..

He recalled that the honoree has always defended the creation of a free society for everyone, which respects each person and safeguards the common good, where everyone finds their space to achieve their goals and together achieve collective prosperity.

On the other hand, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, as host, considered Amílcar Cabral as one of the most outstanding and notable intellectuals in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP).

“A pan-Africanist of great stature who, through his unique liberating journey, whose bravery and stoicism bequeathed the emancipation of the people of Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau, making him immortal”, he explained.

He described Amílcar Cabral as a man of noble and right causes, one who knew how to interpret the desires of his people and fought for essential and foundational objectives of human existence.

His ancestry, he said, and his path influenced his bi-national passion for Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, for whose Independence he offered his life.

The head of Angolan diplomacy said that together with his companions, he founded the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, an essential instrument for achieving the independence of these two territories and affirming the dignity of African men.

He quoted Amílcar Cabral, in a speech given in 1966, where he classified colonialism as a “paralysis or deviation, or even the total halt in the history of a people in favor of the acceleration of the historical development of other peoples”.

The International Colloquium celebrating Amílcar Cabral’s centenary is a recognition of Angola in relation to its contribution to the achievement of National Independence, as well as honoring its memory as one of the freedom fighters against colonial domination.

The colloquium features a single panel with four speakers, namely academics Óscar Monteiro, from Mozambique, Julião Soares de Sousa, from Guinea-Bissau, the former President of Cape Verde and current president of the Amílcar Cabral Foundation, Pedro Pires (by video conference ), and the Angolan historian Cornélio Caley.
