Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Energy and Water, this Monday, in Soyo, seconded the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to announce US funds for a photovoltaic solar energy project in Angola, in a project that helps the country to raise the rate of electrification for 50 percent of the population by 2025.

The US president announced today, in Elmau, Germany, on the sidelines of a G7 Summit (the group of the seven most industrialized countries), in a partnership that involves public and private capital, such as donations, Federal investment and the private sector.

João Baptista Borges reaffirmed, in statements broadcast that four provinces in the country benefit from the project, namely Cuando Cubango, Cunene, Huíla and Namibe, indicating that the amount involved is two billion dollars, including water supply systems in the same southern region of the country.

“We are talking about municipalities where we are going to use photovoltaic systems, that is, solar parks with batteries and distribution networks that will allow accelerating the access of these populations that have never benefited from energy from clean sources”, guaranteed the minister.

In these statements, João Baptista Borges considered that the implementation “of this process will, in fact, represent a radical change in the lives of the people who live in these regions, being, also, an important step towards the energy transition and the increase of access to electricity”.
