Africa-Press – Angola. Angola ́s Foreign minister, Téte António, on Thursday in Luanda highlighted the Vietnamese government’s support for the sectors of agriculture, education and health, which have contributed to the country’s development.
He was speaking during the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, held during the visit of the President of Vietnam, Luong Cuong to Angola.
The official emphasized that the contribution of national technicians trained by Vietnam has been fundamental to the partnership with the Asian country and it is essential to continue discussing relations, exploring new opportunities in strategic sectors such as the economy, trade, science and technology, among others identified in the negotiations.
He also advocated strengthening ties between the peoples, encouraging tourism, cultural Exchange and business cooperation.
“It is in this perspective that we include President Luong Cuong’s important visit to Angola,” he emphasized.
The governor also praised the historical relationships, “covered by the heat of the struggle for self-determination and independence”, adding that over half a century, the two states built a solid and lasting partnership based on principles of solidarity, mutual respect and fraternal cooperation.
According to Téte António, the courage and resilience of the Vietnamese people were a source of inspiration for the Angolan people.
“Your victory in the Vietnam war demonstrated to the world that a people’s will to be free is unbreakable”, he said, considering the current moment a historic milestone that matched with the 50th anniversary of national independence.
The ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations was attended by the President of Vietnam, Luong Cuong, and members of the accompanying delegation, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the country, and representatives of international organizations.
In turn, the Deputy Prime Minister Vietnam, Bui Thanh Son, stated that the relationship has been strengthened based on political trust and bonds of solidarity.
The official who is also the Foreign minister expressed his happiness on the progress made by both countries, each establishing itself as a relevant player in its region and the world, as well as on the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in various fields.
According to him, the friendship between Vietnam and Angola constitutes a precious heritage that must be preserved, promoted and developed to foster cooperation, mobilize resources and promote mutual development, in a global context of increasing complexity and unpredictability in the political, economic and security spheres.
He noted that, in the most difficult times, the two countries have always been a source of mutual support, sharing valuable experiences regarding war, progress, and national development.
Recognition
At the time, four Vietnamese specialists in the fields of health and education were awarded medals in recognition of their contribution to training professionals in Angola.
Speaking to the press, representing the group, Muslim doctor Viet Luong, who has worked at the Cuanza Norte provincial hospital for seven years, he expressed his desire to see cooperation in the sector further strengthened.
The event also featured members of the Vietnamese community residing in the country, a music and dance performance and culminated in a dinner.
A Relationship with historical roots
Although diplomatic relations were officially established on November 12, 1975, ties between Angola and Vietnam date back to 1971, with a visit to Hanoi by the first Angolan President, António Agostinho Neto, before the proclamation of national independence.
In 1978, the general cooperation agreement was signed, laying the foundation for partnerships in areas such as agriculture, culture, energy and education.
The bilateral relationship has been strengthened over the years through the Bilateral Cooperation Commission.
