Africa-Press – Angola. At least twenty-five physical carriers benefited, this Wednesday, from a motorbike with three wheels each, in a Christmas gesture of solidarity from the Ministry of Transport.
This action falls within the social responsibility of the aforementioned ministry, which benefited some individuals who requested support in recent years.
José Alberto Chicolomwenho expressed gratitude for the reception of the motorbike and added that he will put the means at the service of supporting his family, since he is unemployed.
The other beneficiary, Gizela António, considered the motorcycle as part of the solution to her mobility problems.
“It is difficult to get around our city by taxi and bus, as these means of transport do not have any mechanism that facilitates access for people with disabilities”, lamented the beneficiary.
On the occasion, the Minister of Transport, Ricardo de D’Abreu, said that the intention is to facilitate the mobility of beneficiaries, as well as add value to the source of livelihood of these families.
Asked about the reinforcement of the public transport fleet, he indicated that its expansion is part of the pillars of the sector, so that, in the last four years, the fleet has grown by 1,800 buses.
According to the minister, the fleet will continue to grow, but he hopes that private operators will also manage to grow their fleets, with their own funds and adequate financing mechanisms.
On the other hand, he made it known that particular attention will be given to those provinces with high population growth rates, in the sense of having regular and efficient transport services.
Regarding the surface metro, the official assured that in the first quarter of 2023 the project will be relaunched.
