Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, appealed this Thursday to the population not to consume molluscs (cuttlefish, mabanga, rays and others), due to possible marine contamination caused by the appearance of noctiluca algae.
This high concentration of noctiluca algae, known for their glow and causing deterioration of water quality when they grow excessively, does not affect fish consumption.
The Minister of the Environment assured, quoted by Rádio Nacional, that the phenomenon that has been occurring since September 6th on the coast, in Luanda, Cabinda and Namibe, affects molluscs.
Ana Paula de Carvalho also said that Angola will use a certified international laboratory to identify the presence of toxins in molluscs.
