Africa-Press – Angola. One thousand and 836 attempts to violate the border perimeter between the province of Cunene (Angola) and the territory of Namibia were frustrated, in the first half of the current year, by the Border Guard Police, 586 less compared to the same period of 2022 .

The information was released this Friday by the acting spokesman for the command of the National Police in Cunene, inspector Samuel Casaco, noting that the violations had a higher incidence on the border sections of landmarks 5, 7, 19 and 22.

He said that they resulted in the interpellation of 14,433 citizens, of whom 19 are foreigners, eight Namibians, five Ethiopians, four Somalis, one Zimbabwean and an equal number from Guinea Conakry, who were trying to cross the border line towards Namibia/Angola and vice versa.

The spokesperson explained that the Angolan rapists questioned, after operational interrogations, were released, while the foreigners were referred to the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME).

The inspector noted that, of the registered violations, 1,787 were related to tax evasion, 22 for smuggling goods, two for drugs, one for firearms and an equal number of monetary infractions.

In the period in question, 156 customs tax offenses were registered, 13 less than in 2022, and of these, 51 are for circulation smuggling, 49 tax transgressions, 24 export smuggling and 14 import smuggling, 11 qualified contraband, among others exchange rate and forest nature.

They culminated in the apprehension of various goods and unquantified amounts whose records were prepared and sent to the General Tax Administration (AGT), in Santa Clara, for legal proceedings.

The province of Cunene shares 460 kilometers of border with the Republic of Namibia, 340 on land and 120 on rivers.
