Africa-Press – Angola. Seven hundred 36 million and 626 thousand Kwanzas began (Thursday) to be disbursed in the municipality of Camanongue, Moxico province, to support 11 thousand and 161 vulnerable families, within the framework of the “Kwenda” Social Monetary Transfer program.

In this municipality, which is 52 kilometers north of the city of Luena, vulnerable families from four regions will be assisted, namely Sambavu, Muacandala, Musseringinji and Mukolongo, registered to benefit from this program, an initiative of the Angolan Government.

During a period of 20 days of work, operated by the Local Development Institute (FAS), each household will receive 66 thousand Kwanzas, in the form of “cash”, corresponding to one semester of payment, expected to be implemented in two years.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the activity, the director of the Local Development Institute in Moxico, Simão Paiata, informed that during this year, the payment of the fourth installment of the 18 thousand 533 families registered in the municipality of Luau is expected.

In the municipality of Luchazes, where four thousand 541 beneficiaries are registered, the third installment of the eight planned during the two years of implementation of the social support program will be implemented.

Simão Paiata, without mentioning the month, said that payments are also scheduled to begin in the municipalities of Luacano and Alto Zambeze, while Cameia and Léua will take place in 2024.

For his part, the vice-governor for the Political, Economic and Social sector of Moxico, Victor da Silva, reiterated the appeal about the need for recipients to use the amounts benefited in profitable economic activities to guarantee the self-sustainability of families.

The KWENDA Program is an initiative of the Government of Angola, which aims to support 1,608,000 families in situations of poverty and vulnerability in the country.

It is financed with 320 million USD by the World Bank (WB) and 100 million USD by the National Treasury, totaling 420 million USD.

The value of the Kwenda program is paid quarterly, over a period of two years, and each household receives 33 thousand kwanzas.

It is operated by the Local Development Institute (formerly – Social Support Fund – FAS), which in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities.
