Africa-Press – Angola. More than 18 thousand ordinary passports are yet to be collected at the counters of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) in the province of Luanda, the Minister of the Interior, Eugénio César Laborinho, reported this Tuesday.

The government official, who was speaking to the press at the inauguration of the Camama Public Service Point, said that the passports have been ready for more than a year, some are being treated urgently, and there is, to date, no response from citizens regarding to documents.

To reverse the situation, according to the minister, announcements will be made to alert citizens and find ways to distribute documents to offices in their areas of residence, if this does not work, they will be transferred to the archives.

Regarding the inauguration of the post, he said that the action is part of the decentralization of administrative services, mainly their expansion in the periphery, as well as the festivities of the forty-eighth anniversary of the Migration and Foreigners Service, celebrated on Friday, the 19th. For the minister, the implementation of the project will prevent businesspeople and users of the municipality of Talatona from traveling to other parts of the city to issue visas, passports and other migratory acts.

According to Eugênio César Laborinho, the action is in line with the economic and migration policies that the Angolan Executive has been adopting to promote tourism and foreign investment.

“As you know, Chinese citizens no longer need a visa to travel to Angola, as a result of the entry into force of the Presidential Decree on exemption and simplification of procedures for granting tourist visas, published in September 2023” , he said.

The SME service point, located at Shopping Popular in the Camama district, is part of a group of services that will be provided by the Integrated Business Support Center, where AGT is also located, the Chinese company that will work to grant visas to the Chinese territory, AIPEX, Notary offices, legal advice and commercial banks.
