More than 400 Rooms Available for Afrobasket 2025

Africa-Press – Angola. Four hundred and forty-five rooms are available in Luanda and Namibe to accommodate national teams and officials during Afrobasket 2025, to be held from the 12th to the 24th of this month, according to Zahira de Assunção, the national director of qualification and tourism licensing at the Ministry of Tourism.

In an interview, she reported that the hotels HCTA (52 rooms), Vitória Garden (96), Monalisa (25), Palmeiras (30), and Continental Horizonte (21) have been mobilized for Luanda province, totaling 224 rooms.

In Namibe, rooms have been secured at the Iona (120), Chique Chique (75), and Viva (26) hotels, totaling 221.

The national teams already staying in Luanda include Egypt, Tunisia, and Uganda (at HCTA), as well as Cameroon and Senegal (at Vitória Garden).

Representatives from Côte d’Ivoire, DRC, Cape Verde, Rwanda, Guinea and South Sudan will travel to Namibe in the coming days, where they will be welcomed in the hotel units already prepared.According to Zahira de Assunção, the accommodation process is proceeding as planned, including for the referee teams and FIBA representatives.

Regarding accommodation for tourists and supporters, the director assured that Luanda is not facing any limitations.

She noted that the country’s capital has demonstrated its capacity to host large-scale events, citing the recent US-Africa summit as an example.

However, she cautioned that Namibe province still faces capacity shortages, requiring logistical support from Huíla province in the event of an increase in tourists.

Regarding tourism, Zahira revealed that Namibe has already structured a special tourist package for visitors, to be announced soon, which includes a fair taking place at the event pavilion.

As for Luanda province, on the other hand, it has not yet officially presented a tourism program associated with the competition.

The Afrobasket 2025 tournament in Angola is part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of national independence, marking a moment of exaltation of the country’s identity, unity, and affirmation in the continental sports landscape.

In Afrobasket, Angola is in Group C, where it will play Libya on the 12th at the renovated Kilamba Stadium.Then, they head to Namibe, where they face Guinea on the 14th and South Sudan on the 16th at the Welwitschia Mirabilis Pavilion.

Angola has won the continental trophy 11 times, three of which were as hosts in 1989, 1999, and 2007.
