Africa-Press – Angola. At least 229 inmates, out of 452 enrolled in the 2024/2025 academic year, completed their academic and technical-vocational training at the two prisons in Namibe, namely Bentiaba Prison Center, also known as São Nicolau Prison and São Paulo Jail.
At the closing ceremony, the director of the Bentiaba prison, Deputy Commissioner Gabriel Barros, emphasized that the vocational training was led by 24 trainers from various fields, including 15 from the Provincial Directorate of Education, seven prisoners who are teachers, and two from National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (INEFOP).
During training, trainees were taught courses related to physical and biological sciences, economics and law, automobile mechanics, electricity, metallurgy, and carpentry.
The official reaffirmed the prison system’s commitment to the training, humanization, rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates.
In turn, the director of the Namibe Provincial Education Office, Agostinho Sebastião Neto, urged the trainees to put the acquired knowledge into practice for the country’s development.
“The prisoners demonstrated a willingness to learn and the training served as an opportunity to ensure they benefited from it,” he emphasized.
