Africa-Press – Angola. Seven hundred and sixty thousand head of cattle will be vaccinated, in the coming months, against symptomatic anthrax, hematic and dermatitis, in Cunene, said Monday, the local head of the Veterinary Services, Cláudio Simão.
These are the cattle that remained unvaccinated in the campaign opened in March of this year, with an initial forecast of covering 900,000 head by the end of June, but due to lack of vaccines it was suspended.
This campaign, at the beginning, had the availability of 89,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease, 65,000 of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (BPP) and 200,000 diluent doses.
Cláudio Simão explained that, due to lack of doses, 140 cattle were immunized in the municipalities of Cuanhama, Ombadja, Namacunde, Cuvelai, Curoca and Cahama.
He informed that the vaccines have already been ordered, and the veterinary services are waiting to receive, from the Ministry of Agriculture, 700 thousand doses, necessary to cover the 760 thousand cattle against symptomatic anthrax, hematic and dermatitis.
Cláudio Simão said that breeders are being sensitized in order to immediately notify the veterinarian if they notice a strange disease in the cattle, in order to prevent and control the situation.
The campaign, which lasted three months at the time, had 30 brigades and the involvement of 120 veterinary technicians, distributed across all municipalities in Cunene.
At provincial level, 335 vaccination sleeves are controlled, of which 290 are rustic and 45 are permanent.
Data from the Provincial Government of Cunene point to the existence of one million and 100 thousand head of cattle, 78% of which are owned by traditional breeders.
