Africa-Press – Angola. One million 758 thousand and 792 square meters of land were demined in the province of Cunene, in 2023, informed this Wednesday, the local representative of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), Mário Satipamba.

He said that the work covered agricultural, construction and road areas, with 122 unexploded explosive devices being removed, including anti-tank and anti-personnel mines.

For this year, he explained, work is expected to increase, meaning it is necessary to mobilize logistical support for the three demining operators operating in the province.

He said that 4,680 citizens had been sensitized at community level about mine risks, aiming to raise awareness and report cases in the villages.

In the province of Cunene, 35 suspected mine zones are catalogued, corresponding to an area of ​​two million and eight hundred thousand square meters, and brigades of the Angolan Armed Forces and Border Guard Police operate, in addition to the National Demining Center (CND).

Last year, 10 million 46 thousand and 818 meters were demined.
