Africa-Press – Angola. Three hundred and 64 gasoline subsidy cards will start, this Saturday, to be distributed, in a first phase, to motorcycle taxi drivers in Moxico province, the director of the provincial office for Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility, Moisés Cambembe.

The person in charge made this announcement during a meeting held with the Taxi and Motorcycle Taxi Associations in the region, which took place at the house of culture in the city of Luena.

He explained that the aforementioned cards are being distributed in a phased manner, and that in the near future, motorcycle taxi drivers will carry out the survey at the headquarters of the municipal administrations.

He assured that the process could cover the 1,587 taxi operators that carried out the licensing process.

On the occasion, the president of the Provincial Association of Taxi Drivers, Samuel Carlos Natepa, defended greater speed, with a view to benefiting members.

He promised to sensitize associates to maintaining the price of taxi fares.

Moxico’s vice-governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Wilson Augusto, reiterated that transport operators will be able to use subsidy cards, with accumulated value, to offset current expenses.

The Government recently announced the gradual withdrawal of gasoline subsidies in Angola, in force from the 2nd of this month, with the price of this oil derivative rising from 160 to 300 kwanzas/litre.

The new gasoline price does not cover taxis and motorcycle taxis, as well as the productive sector (agriculture, fisheries, industry, among other areas), which will continue to benefit from the State subsidy.

As a result of this measure, taxi drivers, motorbike taxi drivers and those in charge of boats are benefiting from cards for exemption from the new price of petrol, with the aim of ensuring the normal circulation of people and goods.

The cards are personalized, with the registration of the means of transport and are non-transferable, allowing you to continue paying a liter of gasoline at the price of 160 kwanzas, instead of 300, depending on the new price list in force.
