Africa-Press – Angola. The Mozambican government decreed, this Wednesday, a five-day national mourning starting on Thursday for the death of the former Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, announced the Council of Ministers, after an extraordinary meeting.

The Mozambican government justifies that the decision was taken taking into account the “historical ties of brotherhood and solidarity”, among which is the “combination of efforts for the liberation” and “consolidation of independence” of the two countries, said Ludovina Bernardo , spokesperson for the Council of Ministers.

Mozambique also highlighted the role of Eduardo dos Santos in the “fight for racial equality” and in the “promotion of dialogue, stability and peace among the peoples of the region”.

The former President of the Republic died on July 8, aged 79, in a clinic in Barcelona, ​​Spain, after weeks of hospitalization.
