Africa-Press – Angola. The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) requested the Supreme Court this Monday to acquit Manuel Hélder Vieira Dias Júnior “Kopelipa” of most of the crimes against him, maintaining only the request for conviction for the crime of influence peddling.
During the oral arguments session, the Public Prosecutor’s Office representative stated that it was not possible to prove the criminal offenses of embezzlement, fraud by defrauding, document forgery, criminal association, and abuse of power, considering that the evidence presented in court did not support the initial charges.
Therefore, the former Chief of the President’s Military Household may be convicted or acquitted only for the alleged crime of influence peddling, substantially reducing the criminal scope of the case.
Regarding the co-defendants, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the conviction of Leopoldino Fragoso do Nascimento “Dino”, Yiu Haiming and Fernando Gomes dos Santos, for the crimes of fraud, money laundering, influence peddling and document forgery.
The companies China International Fund (CIF), Plansmart International Limited, and Utter Right International Limited, also named as defendants in the case, were also subject to a request for conviction for the crimes of influence peddling and money laundering.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office also requested that the seized assets be declared forfeit to the State and that the extended forfeiture of assets be applied, in accordance with current legislation.
According to the Supreme Court’s procedural schedule, the hearing of the questions is scheduled for the 20th of this month, while the final judgment will be handed down on October 27th, concluding one of the most high-profile legal proceedings in Angola in recent years. The trial, which began on March 10, 2025, has 38 witnesses.
