MPLA in Luanda pays tribute to Agostinho Neto

Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA Municipal Committee in Luanda paid tribute, to the first president of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, as part of the celebrations of National Independence Day, marked on the 11th of this month.

To exalt and remember the figure and deeds of the Founder of the Nation, the aforementioned group promoted a political-cultural event, in Largo da Independência (1. de Maio), headed by the first municipal secretary, Lourenço Luís Domingos.

Meanwhile, the event’s “highlight” was the laying of a wreath next to the statue of Agostinho Neto, the singing of the national anthem by musician Raimundo Violinista, and the performance of some anonymous musicians.

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the activity, the MPLA’s first municipal secretary in Luanda, Lourenço Luís Domingos, explained that the gesture is a way of recognizing Neto’s achievements and that this location was chosen because it was there where he proclaimed the National Independence.

“We are taking advantage of the opportunity, together with activists from the MPLA, OMA and JMPLA, to remember the trajectory of the late president António Agostinho Neto, who gave his all so that Angola today became independent from the Portuguese colonial yoke,” he said.

On the occasion, and focusing on the municipality of Luanda, he highlighted, as gains this year, the rehabilitation of tertiary roads, the modernization of the Hospital dos Queimados Neves Bendinha, schools in the I and II cycles in the urban districts of Rangel and others.

“This allowed many children to enter the education system. But we also have to highlight the positive impact of the program to combat hunger and poverty, which is allowing many citizens and former combatants to take care of their families (…)”, he mentioned. .

The politician informed, on the occasion, that by the end of the year the MPLA in the municipality of Luanda also plans to hold lectures, walks, a musical-cultural show, a cleaning campaign, visits to social impact works in Luanda and a tourist tour around the city .

The event began at 7pm and was attended by around three hundred members of the ruling party. During the event, a video was also shown portraying the trajectory of Agostinho Neto and the various achievements of Angola.
