The vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, clarified, Wednesday, in Luanda, that the demonstration is a citizen’s right, foreseen in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, and that the citizen must make use of this privilege in a civic way , orderly and without causing any social chaos.
According to the party leader, freedom and responsibility must go hand in hand, since the citizen does have the right to demonstrate, but he also has to know how to exercise it, with civility, responsibility and order, without jeopardizing peace and political stability of the country.
The MPLA vice-president made these statements to the press on the sidelines of the Conference on “Gender integration strategy in the legislative, political and governance processes”, where she discouraged whoever is promoting these manifestations and repudiated the acts of riot practiced by the demonstrators.
“I don’t think you’re on the right track. We want to say that they are political wolves in sheep’s clothing who are not actually contributing to the consolidation of peace and stability in our country”, highlighted Luísa Damião, who attended the event promoted by Angola Woman Network.
According to the interlocutor, because of these demonstrations that become more riots than actual demonstrations, in the province of Huambo, for example, there were deaths due to incitement to violence.
“We are in a democratic and lawful State, we must respect and obey the Constitution and the laws. And citizens must be the first to fulfill their rights and duties, and use the rights that are enshrined in the CRA in a civic way and orderly,” he noted.
Asked about the increasing number of women involved in these protest movements, she said that the Constitution of the Republic of Angola does not prohibit anyone from demonstrating, but that this right must be exercised within order, with respect, with civility and with the responsibility that requires.
The official also clarified that the police are there to protect the citizen and should not be attacked during these demonstrations, for which reason all those who use the demonstrations to create political instability and jeopardize the peace that cost the sacrifices of sons and daughters of this Earth.
“All of us must contribute to consolidate peace and stability. Therefore, each one must be a promoter of peace and social stability in Angola”, expressed the vice-president of the MPLA, referring to last Saturday’s demonstration (17th). , in some provinces of the country, allegedly due to the rise in the price of gasoline and Basic Basket products.
