Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Namibe will host, on the 10th of February, at 6 pm, at the Welwitschia Mirabilis Pavilion, the Supercup in senior women’s basketball, with the teams from Interclube and 1o de Agosto.
This information came from the meeting that the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB) had (Thursday), in Luanda, with club officials, to plan the 2024 sports season.
The competition, which kicks off the class’ season, will be contested by arch-rivals, Interclube (title champion) and 1o de Agosto (runner-up).
In the history of these two formations, in terms of number of trophies, the “police” are the most titled, with 10 achievements, and 1o de Agosto, with six.
Also in Namibe, the FAB management, with its technical area, will hold the draw for the 39th edition of the “Liga Azule2024” women’s senior national championship.
The championship will start on March 21st, ending on May 26th, with the participation of 11 teams, competing in an all-against-all system over two rounds.
On the occasion, the coordinator of the “Liga Azule”, Maria Barbosa Afonso “Manu”, told that this 2024 sports season will have a change, that after the Supercup dispute, on the 10th of February, they will start with the Angola Cup inter-provincial phase, with competition between six teams from the country’s capital, from the 15th to the 17th of February.
In the national phase, with the quarter-finals, in two legs, with the first taking place on the 29th of February and the second on the 3rd of March. The semi-finals, will also be in two legs (7th and 10th of March ), with the final being one-legged (single game) on March 16th.
Interclube, 1o de Agosto, 1o de Agosto B, Clube Escola de Formação Formigas do Cazenga, Grupo Desportivo do Maculusso, Inter B, Núcleo Desportivo e Recreativo La Bomba, Jesus Cristo Basketball, Grupo Desportivo de Malanje and Sport Lubango and Benfica, are the teams already registered for the National Championship.
