Africa-Press – Angola. The National Coffee Institute (INCA) wants to collaborate with some universities in the country to gain more knowledge about coffee culture in Angola.
To this end, a memorandum of understanding has already been signed between the institution and several universities (without mentioning names) with the aim of promoting not only coffee consumption, but also matters related to production, reported in Caxito, Bengo province , the general director of INCA, Vasco Gonçalves.
The person in charge who spoke on “Current status of coffee culture in Angola, opportunities and perspectives”, within the scope of the 1st Provincial Coffee Conference, said that Robusta coffee, produced in the provinces of Bengo, Uíge, Cuanza Norte and Zaire and Cuanza Sul , Cabinda represents 90 percent of national production.
He reported that 77.68 percent of production is carried out by family farms and 22.32% by the business sector.
Without presenting comparative data, it revealed that in 2023 4,683 tons of commercial coffee were produced.
The province of Cuanza Sul produced (2,430), Uíge (2,181) and Bengo 72 tons. This production generates more than 19 billion Kwanzas annually among local producers and traders.
In the country, approximately 300 thousand people are dedicated to coffee production, from production, transportation, benefits and export.
In Angola, coffee is produced in more than 10 provinces and there are different varieties such as “Ambriz coffee”, “Cazengo coffee”, “Ambuim coffee”, “Cabinda coffee” and “Arabica coffee”.
The 1st provincial coffee conference in Bengo aimed to publicize the potential of Robusta Coffee and create a space for exchanging experiences between several producing countries.
