Africa-Press – Angola. Matters related to the areas of Defence and Intelligence were analysed exhaustively on Thursday at the Presidential Palace, during the meeting of the National Security Council, chaired by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), João Lourenço. The National Security Council is the advisory body of the President of the Republic on matters relating to the conduct of national security policy and strategy, as well as the organisation, functioning and discipline of the Angolan Armed Forces, the National Police and other bodies that guarantee public order and tranquillity.The members of the National Security Council also analysed conflicts in the world and on the continent, with emphasis on the situation of instability prevailing in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The National Security Council is composed of 23 members, namely the Vice-President of the Republic, the presidents of the National Assembly, the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Military Court, the Attorney General of the Republic and the Minister of State and head of the Military Household of the President of the Republic.
The aforementioned body also includes the Chief of the General Staff of the FAA, the Commander-in-Chief of the National Police, the Head of the State Intelligence and Security Service, the Head of the Military Intelligence and Security Service, the Director-General of the External Intelligence Service, the Inspector-General of the State Administration and the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Service.
The body also includes the Ministers of State and the Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, for Economic Coordination and for the Social Area, as well as the Ministers of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, of the Interior, of Foreign Affairs, of Finance, of Territorial Administration and of Justice and Human Rights.
