Africa-Press – Angola. The director for Africa of Netherlands Affairs, Martine Van Hoogstraten, expressed, this Monday, in the Angolan province of Huambo, the need to invest in boosting economic projects in the Lobito Corridor.

The wish was made during the courtesy meeting he held with the vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of the province of Huambo, Angelino Elavoco, by reaffirming the reinforcement of cooperation focused on agricultural projects and the transfer of knowledge for the consolidation of entrepreneurial initiatives.

The diplomat said it is essential to establish solid partnerships between Angola and the Netherlands to promote sustainable and inclusive development in the fields of agriculture and industry, with a focus on enhancing new jobs, which will provide opportunities for a greater number of young people.

He highlighted the need to promote knowledge transfer projects, through the “Orange Corner” and “Agritech” program, which will strengthen the entrepreneurial skills of young people, as well as the diversification of companies in the province of Huambo, in order to contribute to economic growth local.

He explained that cooperation mainly prioritizes projects on agriculture and industry, to enable social and economic development, through the practical implementation of the Angolan Government’s Lobito Corridor program.

Martine Van Hoogstraten maintained that the “Orenge Corner” and “Agritech” program will take place this year in the provinces of Luanda and Huambo, in open promotion and cooperation between the two countries.

The diplomat, during her stay in the province of Huambo, will seek to know local farms and the project to build the logistics platform underway in the municipality of Caála since 2023.

For his part, the vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of the province of Huambo, Angelino Elavoco, highlighted the initiative of development programs focused on strengthening local economic initiatives and the engagement provided in tasks related to the construction of the logic platform underway in the municipality of Caála.

The vice-governor also highlighted that the Government of the province of Huambo is interested in projects focused on revitalizing industrial programs, to contribute to the sustainable promotion of local entrepreneurial initiatives.

He said that an infrastructure program for the Caála Industrial Development Pole is in the pipeline, to consolidate the local strategic plan for processing agricultural products, implemented by peasant families in this region.

Angola and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have maintained diplomatic relations since November 1975.

The Kingdom of the Netherlands promotes bilateral trade and encourages investment by the Dutch private sector in the Republic of Angola.

Cooperation with Eritrea

Angelino Elavoco also held a separate meeting with the consul general of Eritrea, Dessale Tecleab Berhane, who expressed interest in exploring the areas of agriculture, commerce and industry in this region of the Central Highlands.

Dessale Tecleab Berhane said that the Angolan province of Huambo has approximately 250 Eritreans, hence the intention to increase the volume of investments in these areas, with a view to guaranteeing economic sustainability between the two countries.

To this end, he highlighted the need to consolidate partnerships for the expansion of projects of a social and economic nature, within bilateral cooperation.
