Africa-Press – Angola. The Complete Poetic Work of António Agostinho Neto was presented on Wednesday, in the city of Moçâmedes, Namibe province, in a well-attended ceremony, under the initiative of the Brigada Jovem de Literatura, on the occasion of the centenary of the Greatest Poet.
The event was attended by members of the Government, civil society and students, where books such as Sagrada Esperança, Renuncia Impossível and Amanhecer were made available to the public.
On the occasion, the vice-governor for the technical sector and infrastructure of Namibe, Ema da Silva, considered the poetry of Agostinho Neto not only literary, but historical “heritage” of Africa, given the way in which it sensitively portrays slavery , love, national liberation, culture and customs.
He said they are timeless narratives that even today guide Angolan citizens to consciously play their active role, with knowledge of the culture and its identity, with the mission of building a single People and a single Nation.
“The works of Agostinho Neto demonstrate the vision of the struggle for liberation and the affirmation of the principle of peace and freedom, it shows us the duty that there must be respect for fundamental rights, sovereignty and territorial integrity”, he added.
In turn, according to the provincial delegate of the Brigada Jovem de Literatura do Namibe, Antoninho Candimba Zambango, he expressed that the actions within the scope of the centenary of the Poet President, celebrated in 2022, will continue.
For the young writer, this reverence is a reflection of the “endless” dimension of Agostinho Neto, one of the most important precursors of modern Angolan nationalism, who engaged his poetry in the strategies of struggle for self-determination, transforming it into a relentless weapon of denunciation and of combat.
