New Cunene deputy attorney takes office

Africa-Press – Angola. The new deputy attorney general in the province of Cunene, Beatriz dos Santos, recently appointed by the Superior Council of the Judiciary of the Public Ministry, was presented, this Monday, to the local authorities.

Beatriz dos Santos replaces Américo Cassoma in the position, who had held the position since January 2020 and is currently placed under the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal of Benguela.

The presentation ceremony was guided by the accompanying deputy attorney general of the Republic and coordinator of the Southern Judicial Region, Hernâni Beira Grande, who highlighted that the appointment of Beatriz dos Santos falls within the regular movement of magistrates from the Public Ministry established by the PGR.

He said that she is a magistrate who, throughout her work career, has demonstrated her mastery of the missions of regional coordinations.

He urged the appointed prosecutor to fulfill the duties conferred by law, striving to combat corruption, widespread fuel smuggling, cattle theft, vandalism of public property, illegal entry of vehicles and right-hand drive, from the border with the Republic of Namibia.

Beira Grande noted that right-hand drive vehicles initially appear as “temporary imports”, but end up being sold in the national territory and defaced, changing the steering wheel position from right to left and being automatically legalized.

This attitude, he added, constitutes a flagrant violation of Executive Decree 77/04 of 23 July, which prohibits the registration and registration of this type of vehicles in the national territory.

He also highlighted the need to bring justice services increasingly closer to the population.

For her part, the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, expressed her appreciation for the work carried out by the outgoing prosecutor, as well as ensuring the government’s willingness to cooperate in institutional support for the success of the appointed prosecutor’s mission.

The government official highlighted that cooperation between institutions aims to improve levels of public security, respect for legality and the moralization of society

The outgoing deputy prosecutor, Américo Cassoma, who was in the position for a period of four years, said that he leaves the post with a feeling of duty fulfilled.

Cunene’s new deputy prosecutor said, in turn, that she will strive for teamwork, in close collaboration with all justice administration bodies, whose focus is the fight against cross-border crimes, among others.

The Attorney General’s Office in Cunene controls 16 magistrates, one of whom has retired, 41 justice administration technicians and eight administrative employees.
