Africa-Press – Angola. The Executive attributed Thursday, in a public act, the Angolan nationality, by place of birth, to 19 foreign citizens.
In a ceremony led by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Marcy Lopes, the new Angolans sang the national anthem, swore allegiance and respect for the Constitution, as well as Angolan laws, fulfilling their obligations and duties as national citizens.
The minister exhorted the new compatriots to continue working for the progress and development of the homeland.
Marcy Lopes referred that, from now on, the 19 individuals become full-fledged Angolan citizens, being able to participate in all acts related to the country, including elections.
The technician from the legal office of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, Neusa Santana, explained that nationality by naturalization is granted to applicants who have resided in the country for more than 10 years.
He informed that the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights also granted Angolan nationality to another 22 foreign citizens by marriage.
He explained that the oath of loyalty to the homeland and respect for Angolan laws is only required from those who apply for nationality by birth.
Neusa Santana informed that Angolan nationality is more requested by Portuguese, Cape Verdeans and São Toméans.
Born in São Tomé and Principe, Rubem Lopes da Costa, 85 years old, and residing in Angola for 64 years, said that he always felt like an Angolan and with all the conditions attributed to nationals.
Rubem da Costa said that he would like to die here as an Angolan to honor his 16 children, two of whom are deceased, and dozens of grandchildren born in Angola.
Suzana Matos, born in Portugal, with Angolan children, considers the attribution of nationality an honor, a goal because Angola has always been in my heart, lacking only this bureaucratic formality.
Born in Mozambique, aged 70, José Estbal, who has been in Angola for 31 years, thanked the Angolan State for its trust.
The Law establishes that Angolan nationality can be acquired by reason of filiation, adoption, marriage and naturalization.
It is up to the National Assembly to grant Angolan nationality to foreign citizens who have provided or may provide relevant services to the country or who demonstrate exceptional professional, scientific or artistic qualities.
